God is sooo Good

I’m still here! It’s been a looooong time since I’ve posted anything mainly because I just didn’t know where to start. Just let me being with saying God is so Good!!

With that being said let me fill you in on a bit. Over the past year mom was ill for a while, she is doing much better now. She’s joined a senior center and being that she at 74 is one of the youngest there she is having the time of her life. Everyday she comes home excited about her day. Yes, I was tasked with filling her wardrobe gaps with new clothes, so I've been sewing.

In September, I went into full cardiac arrest at work. Thank God we are trained in CPR and had an AED in the office. My co-workers literally saved my life. I too am doing great. I had no symptoms, no chest pains or didn’t feel in any way out of sorts, just sitting at my desk typing then WHAM! I see life in a totally different light now. I am more grateful for everything and every day. I celebrated my 50th birthday in December and my 25th wedding anniversary in February. These two milestones in my life were made even better just knowing they could not have been if not for God’s mercy. My husband and sons are the greatest.

If you have the opportunity to learn CPR please do, it really works, you never know when you’ll have to use it or who will be the recipient. It just might be you.

It's been a long time since I've posted anything. I read many blogs daily and love looking at all the sewing that's being done. I am still sewing but nothing that I feel is worthy of being posted.

As we all move into the fall and winter months, we get our vehicles ready for the harsh weather.
One thing most of us don't think about is our tires. Attached is a link to a 20/20 speacial I watched some time ago but is very relevant to this post. A dear friend had a similar problem and I just felt the need to share this as to prevent anyone from this fate.

One of my Favorite days of the year December 26th

Today is one of my most favorite days of the year for so many reasons:

Yesterday I had a chance to see almost my entire family and we had

great time together.

Everyone was happy with their gifts.

The fridge is full - there are deserts everywhere. NO cooking today!

I slept until almost 10:00 am - this is extremely rare.

  My house is clean - no housework today!

Off from work - Hurray!

No phone calls!

No laundry!

It just keeps getting better and better(:-)

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Hope you all enjoy your special times with family and friends. My family is well although Mother has had some serious health issues over the past few months. In giving thanks, I'm and truly grateful for all that I have been given.

How a small piece of plastic can ruin your vacation!

This summer I decided not to take a vacation away from home. I spent my days lounging with my family, my brothers, sister and my mother since we all live close. I also finally got a lot of sewing done. I made a few outfits for mom and a few for myself but while finishing up one of my last blouses I heard a terrible sound from inside my machine when I pushed the button to do a back tack, then out fell this little piece of plastic! My heart sank. I have never been without a sewing machine. I've called several repair places and some are on vacation and others that I knew of years ago are out of business. I am at my wits end, I have to get this machine fixed. Wish me luck.

What have I gotten myself into!

Ok, so lets say I've been reading a lot of your blogs and realized I really needed (or so I thought I did) a coverstitch machine. I did a little research and figured I was not about to put out over $1,000 for a new machine. So, I did get a Singer Quantumlock for a reasonable price. What have I gotten myself into! I am the type of person who is not easily defeated. But, this thing is a monster. For the last six days I have been attempting to go through the manual and try all of the stitches. Changing the needle positions and feet are just a little more than I bargained for. My old serger was just fine, four small spools of thread and off we went! No, I had to want more! So, I'll spend the rest of this weekend too attempting to master this new toy. Wish me luck, patience and some magical powers to conqure this thing :)

A few free moments to myself!

When you only have a little idle time and you're at the computer do you ever play games?
Well if you do, I have a game that is so addictive that you could become hooked! Here is a link where you can download a free trial version. At first glance you'll think OH another matchy matchy game. Not so, this game is not designed for children. I've been playing it for several years and it has stumped many of my friends and family, no matter what occupation, education level or age group. It's fun and very competitive.

A Sign of the Times

Why do people leave valuables visible inside their vehicles? I don't know if this is a problem in your city but where I live people are constantly leaving expensive items on the seats of their vehicles and going about their business. They return to find their windows broken, the items missing and they don't understand why. Another thing I don't understand is why people leave their vehicle running with all their keys hanging in the ignition (house keys too) and go into a store to make a purchase, then come out and it's GONE! What did they expect to happen? Do you think car theives and burglars aren't coworkers, not only do they have the car but I'm sure something in the vehicle has an address on it.

With the way the economy is going right now, desperate people are going to do desperate things. Be mindful of your surroundings and secure your belonging out of sight.

Today is my 22nd Anniversary.

My DH and I have been celebrating since Thursday. We've had two great dinner dates and will continue our celebration until maybe Tuesday. It's a holiday weekend who knows what will happen :).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here in Philadelphia we celebrate the New Year with an age old
tradition -The Mummers Parade. This parade is over 100 years old. It goes on no matter how cold it is here. There have
been a few years it was postponed due to rain or high winds but normally it's a go on New Years day.

In it's inception men were the only participants. Individual clubs would come up with a theme, design their costumes, choreograph the routines, play the music and put on the most spectacular performances. These clubs are family rights of passage. Most clubs are made up of great grand fathers down to newborns just a few days old. They practice all year long just to march down Broad Street and do the Mummers Strut!

After the parade is over the real celebration begins. Many of the
South Philly residents who have participated in the merriment
proceed to 2nd Street and have a party of their own.


Whatever you do to ring in the New Year enjoy, be safe and remember, Don't Drink and Drive.

Create Memories that last forever!

This Holiday season if you have small children you don't really know what will be the one thing of their childhood that will be the most memorable. Of all the gifts I received growing up, I only remember two things my barbie collection and my grandmothers silver trees each year. The tree is the one thing I always think of around Christmas. Back in the 70's this was the rage and if you had the color wheel to make it change colors you had something special.

No matter what you think is the hottest gift or the thing you spend the most money on, your children will probably remember one thing when they are grown.

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!

It's my birthday!

I'm 47 - WOW! So close to 50.

I look forward to my birthday every year. I enjoy getting singing birthday greetings by phone from family and friends, some of whom I haven't heard from in a year, but they always remember my birthday.

We have a standing family tradition. The entire family gathers for dinner and cake and the meal is picked by the person who's birthday it is. I am allowing my husband to choose the meal, he says he wants it to be special this year.

It's happend again.

The City of Philadelphia has lost another Police Officer. Yesterday we buried the fifth Police Officer in just over a year. As we enter the holiday season, please keep in mind that Police really are there to protect and serve the public.

At least two of these Officers were killed by drunk drivers. They have families that need them as much as you need yours.

Remind your friends and family to drink responsibly and enjoy your Holiday.

To the families of the fallen officers I send them my prayers.

The size of the box!

I went to the mall yesterday to do a little shopping and decided to buy my youngest son and my grandson a pair of sneakers.  When I got home and unpacked the bags this sight struck me as funny. 

 I know my son is a big guy and my grandson is still little and snugly but wow what a difference 14 years makes.

Today started off great. My whole family voted before 8:00am. Last night we planned who would pick up Mom, what time everyone had to be at work today and who would make the coffee. My husband and I, my sister and her husband, their son, my son, my brothers and Mom were split between two polling places but we all made it and VOTED.

Hope you have as much fun as we did, we made it a family event and enjoyed every minute.
